"Stairway to Heaven"

The via ferrata „Stairway to Heaven“ up to the Donnerkogel is one of the most famous ferratas in the alps. It is a must do for every climber.

Where is the „Stairway to heaven“ via ferrata?

First you have to go to Gosau, which is one hour away from Salzburg, close to Hallstatt. From Gosau/lake Gosau (936 m), a cable car brings you up to Zwieselalm. From there in about 20 minutes you will reach the beginning of the via ferrata. The „stairway to heaven“ is rated up to D. So it is not for beginners. The famous ladder is more than 40 meters long. So if you are afraid of hights, perhaps not the best idea. The stairway to heaven ends at the top of Donnerkogel (2.054 m).
